Mary S. Black writes historical fiction about Native American pre-history as well as the Jake Quinby archeological mystery series. Mary has been in and about North American archeology for almost 30 years on an avocational level.
She developed curriculum for middle school students on archeology while she was education editor for www.texasbeyondhistory.net. She got very hot and dirty during two field schools in Belize and is a member of the Texas Archeological Society.
She holds a doctorate in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education and was formerly on the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Steve, an actual Texas archeologist, and two cats.
